# How to read a record — Food establishment inspections in Chicago

> What the record is, what the status means, and what is left out.

## How to read these records

### The record

Chicago Department of Public Health inspects restaurants, groceries, schools and other food establishments and publishes every inspection. This site gathers them into one record per establishment: the latest inspection, its result as the authority wrote it, and how many inspections the file holds. Establishments whose latest inspection found them out of business are left out.

### Status

Inspected food establishment. An inspection describes one visit on one day; it is not a rating of the business today. The text of violations and the inspector's name are not shown.

### What is not here

Individuals, and any name without a company word (Inc, LLC, Corp, Co…). Owner and contact names, phone numbers
and mailing addresses, which this site never downloads.

**For owners and managers: does
your company have 30 to 200 employees?**

AI labs pay companies to license their internal workflows (SOPs,
documentation, support tickets), anonymized and under contract. You keep ownership and pay nothing.

**Describe your company in 2 minutes →**
Offered by Registres, an independent data gateway. Not affiliated with Chicago Department of Public Health.
