What this is
Chicago Department of Public Health inspects restaurants, groceries, schools and other food establishments and publishes every inspection. This site gathers them into one record per establishment: the latest inspection, its result as the authority wrote it, and how many inspections the file holds. Establishments whose latest inspection found them out of business are left out. This site keeps the companies — names that carry Inc, LLC, Corp and the like — and makes them searchable by name, type and place.
Who uses it
- Suppliers and landlords — is this company in the Chicago file, and since when?
- Sales teams — companies by type and place, and the newest ones.
- Owners — your own record as the source publishes it.
What it is not
Not Chicago Department of Public Health, and not a certificate. Individuals and names without a company word are left out. An inspection describes one visit on one day; it is not a rating of the business today. The text of violations and the inspector's name are not shown.
